Research Interests
Dr Brehls research focuses on the following themes in the fields of genocide research, discourse theory and discourse history, the relationship between textuality and historicity, and the thematic area of "violence and language":
• Discursive Strategies of the Legitimation of Violence
• War Poetry (in particular the Literature of the First World War)
• Literature and Bellicism
• Colonialism and Genocide
• Herero Genocide
• "Volkish-national" and National Socialist Worldviews
• Political-biographical Narratives
• Aesthetic and Rhetorical Structures of (totalitarian) Ideologies

Research Projects
• Researcher in the project "Linguistic Strategies of Exclusion in Political Violence: The Herero-Nama Rebellion 1904/07 in Contemporary German Literature" (Prof. Dr. Mihran Dabag, Prof. Dr. Uwe K Ketelsen; Fitz Thyssen Foundation)
• Researcher in the project "Autobiographical narrative and political Weltanschauung in Nazi writings of the 1920s" (Prof. Dr. Mihran Dabag, Prof. Dr. Manfred Schneider, funded by the DFG)
