Research: Tasks and Guiding Principles

The terms diaspora and genocide characterize the main tasks of the Institute in the areas of research, teaching and the promotion of young scientists, but also in the areas of historical-political education and further education.

The two terms refer to the guiding principles of the Institute's research:
- to look at the complexity of the genocide processes: on the multilayeredness and dynamics of the political, legal, social and psychological causes, framework conditions and aspects of realisation;
- to integrate the intergenerational after-effects into research and to recognize migrations, exile, psychological trauma, identificative and social changes as consequences of structural violence;
- not to look at genocides in isolation from the overall social structures and developments, but to look at them as processes in society as a whole.
