• Initiator und Coordinator of the cooperation between RUB and University of Namibia (UNAM)
• Lecturer in the Faculty of Histories at the University of Bochum

Research Interests:
• Visual history (war photography, travel and colonial photography, pictorial postcards)
• African (colonial) history especially GSWA / Namibia
• Cultural history of travelling (Africa and the Mediterranean)
• German-Mediterranean entangled history
• Mediterranean studies as a history of science and ideas

Research Projects:
• Head of project »Textual and pictorial narrative of genocide. A critical edition of the written and photographic legacy of Lothar von Trotha, commander-in-chief of the colonial troops in German South West Africa from 1904 to 1905« (funded by the DFG)
• Head of project „Establishment of an open access journal: Zeitschrift für Mittelmeerstudien (ZfM)“ (funded by the DFG)
